Hi! You've reached my panic page...

My name is Sarah Dew and I have panic attacks on occasion. I have PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and TBI (traumatic brain injury) from a long history of concussions.

Things like fireworks, crowded loud places, strobe lights, and other forms of overstimulation can make me panic. If you've found this page it's likely you've found me mid episode! Here's what you should know:

  • I'm okay! this will pass, and I know it will. This is a physical and neurological response my body has, and sometimes it just has to happen.

  • Big scenes and lots of people around make it worse. If you can help me get to a quieter, less bright place without a big kerfuffle, I would appreciate it!

  • Sometimes physical contact or holding my hand can help- but sometimes it will make it worse. Please ask before touching.

  • Ask me yes or no questions- it can be hard to communicate in a panic attack, but yes or nos can help ground me and get me up and on my way.

  • I usually have earplugs on my keychain, and they help with overstimulation.

  • Don't call an ambulance or feel obligated to stay- I appreciate you taking the time out of your day and sympathizing for a moment.

This is a part of a collection of self-agency resources I've created, that you can find more of throughout this site. Please pass along to someone they might help, or feel free to send a message via the contact form below- I'm happy to chat anytime!
