Statements on EDI are performative unless they are accompanied by equitable wages. An organization has no right to claim that it is committed to changing "business as usual" if it continues to run its business as usual. And it has no moral authority to claim it can create positive social change while simultaneously paying starvation wages for a job disguised as education. Most members of the theatre community can see right through this disguise, because most of us have had these kinds of jobs before - and we hope that the next generation of theatre artists will be treated with more dignity and respect for their talent and skill.
